Study Resources
Biblical Christianity is a path of spiritual transformation based upon the truths of the New Testament, not conformity to man's rules or to be an informative system. So, grow and learn and apply Biblical truth to your life, especially if you are a disciple or follower of Jesus Christ:

Listen to Messages through the entire Bible from Dr. John Penn.

100th Anniversary
Cave Springs Missionary Baptist church surpassed its 100th year of existence as a landmark Baptist congregation in 2008.  We celebrated this milestone on Saturday, June 25th, 2011.  Click here for more details on that special day.

  1. We believe that love one for another as Jesus loves the believer manifests our discipleship, proves our love for God and exhibits our authority as a New Testament, or New Covenant, assembly. Love is therefore the great commandment of the LORD Jesus Christ upon which all others are dependent (Matt. 22:35-40; John 13:34, 35; John 15:12; 1 John 4:7-21; 1 John 5:1-3; Rev. 2:4, 5).

  2. We believe in the inspiration of the whole Bible as the Word of the God, and the Bible is the all-sufficient rule of faith and practice (Psalm 119:160; 2 Tim. 3:16, 17; II Peter 1:20-21).  Translations of the original Greek and Hebrew are just that: translations or interpretations.  However, just as mere, sinful men can be called men of God and used sufficiently by the Lord, so can sound translations in various languages convey the Words of God correctly and sufficiently as originally written and be called the Word of God - just like a truthful Bible preached message from a sinful man can be called the "Word of God" (II Corinthians 3:5).

  3. We believe in the personal, triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, equal in divine perfection, and it took a revelatory statement from the Lord Jesus Christ and manifested to the human senses by God during the baptism of Jesus to reveal this difficult truth to humanity (Matt. 28:19).  The use of the word "Godhead" in the New Testament denotes the oneness of this appellation for the Living God and emphasizes the existence of leadership within the person of God.  That is, we are to pray to the Father in the name of Jesus Christ and to do this with Spirit touched by Divinity, or through the Holy Spirit.  We are not told to pray to the Holy Spirit.

  4. We believe in the Genesis account of Creation (Gen. 1; 2) and that we live on planet and in a cosmos that was Created by the Person really behind this book we call "the Bible."  The plural use of the Hebrew title Elohim, or the Creator described in Genesis, emphasizes the multifaceted nature of "God" as is revealed in the awe inspiring facets of life found on Earth and the many beauties seen throughout the Universe.    Moses was the author and human instrumentation of Genesis (Luke 24:27), and "...he was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was mighty in words and deeds(Acts 7:22).

  5. We believe that Satan is a fallen personality of the highest order and is a spiritual reality, the archenemy of God and man, the unholy god of this world, and that his destiny is the eternal lake of fire (Isa. 14:12-15; Ezek. 28:11-19; Matt. 25:41; 2 Cor. 4:4; Eph. 6:10-17; Rev. 20:10).

  6. We believe in the virgin birth and sinless humanity of Jesus Christ (Matt. 1:18-20; 2 Cor. 5:21; 1 Peter 2:22).

  7. We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ (John 10:30; John 1:1, 14; 2 Cor. 5:19).

  8. We believe the Holy Spirit is the divine Administrator for Jesus Christ in His assemblies (Luke 24:49; John 14:16, 17; Acts 1:4, 5, 8; Acts 2:1-4).

  9. We believe that miraculous spiritual manifestation gifts were done away when the Bible was completed. Faith, Hope and Love are the vital abiding Spiritual Gifts (1 Cor. chapters 12-14).  We also believe that the journey of spiritual maturity causes an expansion of influence in one's life through the grace of God (charismata) and causes one to possibly fulfill many roles, responsibilities and Christian traits (Romans 12).  The gift of grace, faith, hope and love mature in a Biblically practicing and knowledge-growing Christian in a way superior to the infantile, instantaneous gifts of the early churches, which mostly causes division, strife, pride and self-serving deviations.  We do acknowledge the miraculous spiritual manifestation gifts were needed to validate the authenticity of Christian assemblies in the beginning when Christianity was taking root, but that non-contradictory doctrine defines true Christian assemblies to this day and that the completed Bible is what God had in mind as the standard by which "scriptural groups" would be recognized, as all of the instantaneous gifts supported the spread of Christian Bible-based knowledge (communicated it in every language - tongues, explained it - interpretation and expounded upon it - knowledge gift.  God can heal directly if it be His Will, and healing can be found in many other ways besides physically through the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.

  10. We believe that Man was created in the image of God and lived in innocency until he fell by voluntary transgression from his sinless state, the result being that all human beings are sinners (Gen. 1:26; Gen. 3:6-24; Rom. 5:12, 19).

  11. We believe that the suffering and death of Jesus Christ was substitutionary for all humanity and is efficacious only to those who believe (Isa. 53:6; Heb. 2:9; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 Peter 3:18; 2 Peter 3:9; 1 John 2:2).

  12. We believe in the bodily resurrection and ascension of Christ and the bodily resurrection of His saints (Matt. 28:1-7; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Cor. 15:42-58; 1 Thess. 4:13-18).

  13. We believe in the premillennial, personal, bodily return of Christ as the crowning event of the Gentile age. This event will include the resurrection of the righteous to eternal heaven, and a Millennial reign of Jesus Christ - the Day of the Lord - will be followed by the resurrection of the unrighteous unto eternal punishment in the lake of fire and that the righteous shall enter into the heaven age (John 14:1-6; 1 Thess. 4:13-18; 2 Thess. 2:8; Rev. 19; Rev. 20:4-6; Rev. 20:11-15; Rev. 21:8).

  14. We believe that the depraved sinner is saved wholly by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and the requisites to regeneration are repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 13:3-5; John 3:16-18; Acts 20:21; Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:8, 9), and that the Holy Spirit convicts sinners, regenerates, seals, secures, and indwells every believer (John 3:6; John 16:8, 9; Rom. 8:9-11; 1 Cor. 6:19, 20; Eph. 4:30; Titus 3:5).

  15. We believe that all who trust Jesus Christ for salvation are eternally secure in Him and shall not perish.  Because personal salvation from a human being's inherent moral condition is a free gift, it is self-evident the gift is eternally given based on nothing a recipient has done but accept that gift through belief.  This is the beginning of a relationship with the true God of heaven.   (John 3:36; John 5:24; John 10:27-30; Rom. 8:35-39; Heb. 10:39; 1 Peter 1:5).

  16. We believe that God deals with believers as His children, that He chastises the disobedient, and that He rewards the obedient (Matt. 16:27; Matt. 25:14-23; John 1:12; Heb. 12:5-11; 2 John 8; Rev. 22:12).

  17. We believe that Jesus Christ established His ecclesia institution during His ministry on earth and that it is always a local, visible assembly of scripturally baptized believers in covenant relationship to carry out the Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ, and each ecclesia is an independent, self-governing body, and no other ecclesiastical body may exercise authority over it. We believe that Jesus Christ gave the Great Commission to the New Testament assemblies only, and that He promised the perpetuity of His institution.  Because his institution was decentralized, this added to it never disappearing from the Earth until he returns. (Matt. 4:18-22; Matt. 16:18; Matt. 28:19, 20; Mark 1:14-20; John 1:35-51; Eph. 3:21).  A congregation loses its authority as a light bearing ecclesia in this world when it ceases to teach and practice Biblical truth and love.

  18. We believe that there are two pictorial ordinances in the Lord's ecclesia: Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Scriptural baptism is the immersion of penitent believers in water, administered by the authority of a New Testament church in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Lord's Supper is a memorial ordinance, restricted to the members of the assembly observing the ordinance (Matt. 28:19, 20; Acts 8:12, 38; Rom. 6:4; 1 Cor. 5:11-13; 1 Cor. 11:1, 2, 17-20, 26).   The Greek word baptizo always meant to submerge or immerse, and was actually used to described the sinking of ships, i.e. to never rise again from the water.  The beauty and irony of this word as used to denote the physical token of the New Covenant is that one who believes in Jesus Christ as Savior, will rise again once buried in death.  The Greek word rantizo meant to sprinkle or pour and is not used in the New Testament.  Additionally, at Jesus' baptism, the Bible says "...he came up out of the water."  Just as the spotless lamb in the Law was a picture that God did not want marred in any way, pointing to the sinless Lamb of God, so baptism must paint a picture of death, burial and resurrection and not be changed and no one has the authority over God to do that.

  19. We believe that there are two divinely appointed offices in a New Covenant assembly because they persist in the New Testament letters and are emphasized in the book of Acts - the first history of early Christianity; pastors and deacons, to be filled by men whose qualifications are set forth in Titus and 1 Timothy.  We believe the title of "Apostle" was reserved for the original 13 that held that office in the New Testament, as is evident by the Lord's particular choosing of Paul and this term was never used again after Paul in the New Testament.  The "prophet" was also no longer needed with the completion of the Word of God because every Christian can now be empowered with the full knowledge of God (Jeremiah 31: 1-31).   The term "Evangelist" no longer applies as a title either because every Christian can now take the message of Christ to humanity, though the modern "missionary" is very much like the Evangelist and much of Christianity uses this word loosely in various contexts.

  20. We believe that all associations, fellowships, and committees are, and properly should be, servants of, and under control of the churches (Matt. 20:25-28).   For historical purposes, Cave Springs MBC has associated with the American Baptist Association and the local Landmark Baptist Missionary Association.

  21. We believe in freedom of worship without interference from the government and affirm our belief in civil obedience, unless the laws and regulations of civil government run contrary to the Holy Scriptures (Rom. 13:1-7; 1 Peter 2:13-15).
Working Together in God's Kingdom
The current direction of the Cave Springs Missionary Baptist assembly is the same as it was when it started in its current form in 1908 by the outreach of First Baptist Church in Sullivan, Missouri through the American Baptist Association. We are seeking to make disciples of all nationalities, teaching them first and foremost of the grace and love of the God. We emphasize the eternal salvation to those who will accept Jesus Christ freely and willingly as the personal Savior.

Further, we faithfully and uncompromisingly echo the New Testament teachings of the Apostles that these believers must be identified with Jesus Christ through Christian water immersion at the hands of a scriptural New Testament assembly.  This is to publicly show the believer's identification and committed association with the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ - the core of the Gospel.  Baptism is also the token of the New Covenant.

Spiritual maturity and selfless service to God through one's lifetime in a New Testament practicing church is the ultimate focus of the teaching and preaching ministries of Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church.  We believe if members leave our assembly, they are accountable to God to join with another scriptural body and continue in their Christian service.  This process of discipleship re-creates the believer into an accountable,  spiritual being through the Holy Spirit of God in the assembly.

During the last ten years, this assembly has also graciously and, oftentimes to their own detriment, financially helped broken families, families in need of food and place to live, retired pastors, young people, and missionaries starting new scriptural congregations in new areas.  We believe the financial obligations of the assembly are to be met solely by the free will offerings of members and whoever would be motivated by the Lord to contribute to our ministry.
